GOSPEL AND EUCHARIST (conference)In our life we try, through our spiritual reading, conferences, and meditation, to penetrate more deeplyinto the wondrous mysteries of Jesus’ hidden and public life and to be filled with the inexhaustibleriches of His divine Heart. The Holy Gospel is our guide and our light, so that we may come to knowour divine King ever more intimately and feel ourselves safely led behind the veil, into the Holy ofHolies. God’s holy word illumines the path of our life; with the help of our spiritual faculties, in thelight of our faith and through the power of our burning love, we take into mind and heart the infinitelyrich personality of Jesus and the unfathomable life of His soul, as though we might behold Him withour eyes, hear His voice, touch Him with our hands, or rest for a moment upon His tender Heart offriendship.Perhaps the thought sometimes arises in us that the apostles, the disciples, and the holy women werefar more privileged, and therefore could respond better to their vocation than we can. Hegives Himself to us as divine Bread of Life and communicates Himself to us in the purest love as theonly Beloved of our soul. Through our Eucharistic life we shall therefore come to know and loveJesus of the Gospel in the best way; and conversely, by contemplating Jesus in the Gospel, the divinefire of love in the Eucharist will draw us ever more strongly and set our love ablaze. May thismeditation help us toward that end.First Point: To contemplate the life of Jesus in the Eucharist1. In the Eucharist Jesus Christ is essentially and truly present with the...
