His small stature, gentle face, and frail bodymade him appear almost childlike, yet his words carried a depth that surprised listeners. People saw inhim a priest who relied not on human power but on grace. His humility became one of his most strik-ing traits: he never sought attention, never defended himself, and never allowed learning to over-shadow charity.His years in Louvain were marked by hardship.
