(330 – 379) Bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia from 370 until 379, influential theologian who supported the Nicene Creed and opposed the heresies such as Arianism and Apollinarianism. He established guidelines for monastic life which focus on community life, liturgical prayer, and manual labor. Doctor of the Church
