1CHAPTER 4. THE STRUCTURE1. Original StructureThe oldest manuscript tradition gives of the introduction only the title and days of celebration. Allprayers and ceremonies of the rite of access are not given because they are given elsewhere in the manuscriptor they are supposed to be known. Also the invitations to prayer before every ghanta are presupposed. Thequestion of whether in the original structure the kusape were included or not is disputed among the experts. So, we get following structure:Introduction: title, days of celebration.Rite of access: blessing of the deacon, karozutha, prayer of access.First cycle: invitation to prayer, (kusapa?), ghanta, qanona.Peace: salutation, exchange, diptychs (missing in many manuscripts), karozutha.Rite of incensing: removal of the veil, blessing of incense, prayer during incensing, blessing of deacon.Preface: 3 qanone, qulasa.Second cycle: (kusapa?), invitation to prayer, ghanta, qanona, qaddish.Third cycle: (kusapa?), invitation to prayer, ghanta with institution narrative, qanona, qulasa.Forth cycle: (kusapa?), invitation to prayer, ghanta, qanona, qulasa.Fifth cycle: (kusapa?), invitation to prayer, ghanta with epiclesis and qulasa, qanona.ConclusionAt the present stage of the studies we cannot say much about the original structure. This is partially dueto the non-availibility of manuscripts. The comparison between the manuscripts has shown variants inreadings. Certain expressions have been added in the course of time, other expressions have been explainedor corrected. We will therefore concentrate more on the present version of the text, which is a witness of thehomogenous doctrinal and spiritual development of the liturgy in the Church of the East.22.
